/// processing facility scoping study

Evaluating converter technology in pursuit of developing the next Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate (LHM) converter to meet the demand of lithium-ion batteries.

Rock Tech Lithium (RCK) Inc. is a Canadian-based mineral exploration and development company specializing in lithium and battery metals, focused on contributing to the growing demand for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles.  To advance the Georgia Lake spodumene project in Ontario, Canada, RCK has evaluated converter technology it should pursue in developing the next Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate (LHM) converter to process Georgia Lake mine concentrate.

RCK had requested trajectorE to conduct a high-level review and assessment of process options for the design, construction, and operation of a lithium hydroxide processing facility in the broader Thunder Bay area. The methodology conducted consisted of a review of the world-wide lithium processes that would be suitable for the Georgia Lake mine concentrate. Source information included details in the Guben FEL3 report, testing reports and various analyses conducted by RCK for the Nitrate process, publicly available information for other process options and limited details provided directly from Metso Outotec. Consumable and disposal pricing was collected from direct supply budget pricing.

The assessment included a side-by-side comparison of each process that identifies each option's differences, risks, and benefits. Where pricing, time, or detailed knowledge of the process equipment requirements was not available, the cost estimate was conducted on a basis of the high-level factoring using the Guben Converter FEL3 report. The assessment was considered accurate in terms of relativity as compared to actual costs and satisfied the needs of the client.

/// long harbour processing facility

While working for the owner, trajectorE team members were members of the Project and Operations Teams from FEL1 through to production ramp-up of Vale’s Long Harbour Processing Plant.

During the Project phase, this included holding integral management roles in the Engineering, Project Controls, Estimating, Planning, Construction, Operational Readiness, Commissioning and Operations Rep functions. In addition to building project planning and delivery methodologies, procedures and tools, the team was also responsible for achieving structured FEL1-3 toll gate checklist requirements and defending these achievements to corporate PMO auditors.

During the Operations Phase, trajectorE team members built the on-site PMO organization to execute a $100M/year sustaining capital portfolio during the fast-paced production ramp-up and debottlenecking period of the operation. This included hiring staff with the appropriate experience and skills, establishing the methodologies for portfolio management, project initiation, scoping, prioritization & sanction, as well as project delivery for 100+ projects/year ranging in size from $50k to $10M.

/// operational readiness partner

the trajectorE team had been engaged by Foran Mining to act as a partner on the in the area of Operational Readiness (OR) for the McIlvenna Bay Project.

Located in the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt region of Saskatchewan, the scope of work to date includes OR scoping and planning, defining strategies for all aspects of the operation, HAZOP, Operating & Maintainability review, commissioning planning. Remaining scope includes maintenance program development, training, and the execution of other OR work packages

/// rare earth processing study

trajectorE is currently undertaking a class 4 Process Options assessment for Argentia Capital Inc for a Rare Earth Oxide processing facility in Argentia.

The objective of this project is to conduct an analysis of the mid-stream processing and production stages of the Rare Earth Element industry and evaluate processing options within the magnet manufacturing supply chain. The analysis will produce a summary of each step along the value chain, including a Class 5 cost estimate of each activity. Specific physical and logistical requirements for each step along the supply chain will be identified and will be the basis for a step-by-step evaluation of the suitability of the Port of Argentia as the preferred location for each activity.

 This information will be used to evaluate options and to provide recommendations for establishing global Rare Earth Elements (REE) processing capacity within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

/// preventative maintenance program

In order to optimize maintenance costs and asset availability, Vale's Long Harbour Operations group engaged trajectorE to develop and validate a preventive maintenance program for the entirety of the facility's 5000 assets.

This included the configuration of these routines inside Vale's SAP ERP system.

/// CFI start-up

Canada Fluorspar Inc. (CFI) had identified a program of projects to ensure their facilities are properly winterized. CFI has requested trajectorE to provide Project Management support to ensure this program is completed successfully in time to reduce the risk of damage and production interruption due to winter.

This scope this project included scoping, overseeing any design, procurement, and construction activities, acting on behalf of owner to ensure scope meets the objectives of CFI, and the secondment of an on-site Project Coordinator to work with CFI stakeholders to manage the project to completion

/// self-generation plant

In order to optimize electrical operating costs, Nutrien undertook the design and construction of an on-site self-generation facility in their Rocanville SK, Potash facility.

Since 2020, trajectorE has worked in an integrated fashion with the Cahill Group on the design, construction & commissioning of a 90 MW power plant for Nutrien, a potash producer in Rocanville, SK. trajectorE’s role on the project has been to complete electrical & instrumentation commissioning work packages, commissioning planning & on-site management, HAZOPs and engineering studies.

This scope included the completion of process engineering and hazard & operability studies, developing the mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover strategy & plans, and coordination of the completions and commissioning activities of all equipment vendors and external owner contractors.
